Jarmila Slechtova graduated in Mathematics and Descriptive Geometry from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Palacky University, Olomouc (1973).

After working briefly at the Mining Vocational School in Havírov (1973-1976), where she taught mathematics, she lectured Mathematics and Descriptive Geometry at the VSB-Technical University in Ostrava (1976-1994). From 1995 she worked as an Actuary of the Zemsky Pension Fund, and from 1997, she was an Actuary for the Insurance Company UNION.

From the year 1996 she started to work part-time with the School of Business Administration of Silesian University. Since 2002 she has been a full-time faculty member of the Department of Finance. Since 2002 she has been the Secretary of the Department of Finance. In her scientific-research activity along with the publication activity, she engages in issues of financial mathematics and insurance. She lectures in Financial and Insurance Mathematics A, Financial and Insurance Mathematics B, Insurance A, Insurance B and Investment and Financial Advisory.

She is a member of the Czech Society of Actuaries and the Union of Czech Mathematicians and Physicists
